Mojo Celebrates 5th Annual Record Store Day

Mojo Books & Music will have a full day of special events April 21.

April 21 is the fifth annual international .Β  is one of the few stores that brought Record Store Day to Florida in its inception in 2008 and every year since.

Record Store Day is a celebration of the unique culture surrounding more than 700 independently owned record stores in the USA and hundreds of similar stores internationally. On this day, record stores join with artists and labels to promote and revive the indie shop's role in music.

This year's Record Store Day will be the biggest yet with more than 300 exclusive, limited vinyl releases. In past years, enthusiastic collectors started lining up more than an hour ahead ofΒ MojoΒ Books & Music's 9 a.m. opening.

In addition to the exclusive Record Store Day releases,Β MojoΒ will have events throughout the day. Free goodie bags will be given with every purchase while supplies last. Drawings and giveaways will be held with premium Record Store Day merchandise and rare releases from previous years. Additionally, Tampa's own chapter of the worldwide vegan bakesale will begin at 10 a.m. to benefit Florida Voices for Animals. And a full lineup of free, all ages in-store performances will run throughout it all.

The concert schedule is:

  • 9 a.m., DJ Sam Esser (have him play your RSD purchase on the spot)
  • 1 p.m., The Red Rockits
  • 2 p.m., Kersey Williams
  • 3 p.m., Caleb Hyers Band
  • 4 p.m., Harpers Ferry
  • 5 p.m., Cats in the Basement (Sarasota)
  • 6 p.m., Month Mind
  • 7 p.m., Hot Hands (Orlando)
  • 8 p.m., Ancient River (Gainesville)
  • 9 p.m., Jackie Ransom (Miami)
  • 10 p.m., Blast and the Detergents
  • 11 p.m., Loins

β€œRecord Store Day is our most exciting day of the year,” said Melanie Cade, co-owner ofΒ . β€œOur customers are able to take home something special, something the big online retailers can’t offer. And they get to have a great time doing it. We welcome everyone to join the party and explore their local independent record shop.”
