Masque Theatre will present the all-youth summer musical, Once Upon a Mattress, Friday, Aug. 9 and Saturday, Aug. 10 at 7:30 p.m. and Sunday, Aug. 11 at 3 p.m. at the Omar K. Lightfoot Center, 10901 N. 56th St., Temple Terrace.Â

In this musical adaptation of Hans Christian Andersen's fairy tale, The Princess and the Pea, Princess Winnifred is put to the test by the conniving Queen Aggravain, who doesn't think any girl is good enough for her son, Prince Dauntless.Â

Local rock groups Scream Machine and Pitbull Toddler are joining forces with Cox Media to present a First Responders Tribute. The benefit concert will take place Friday, Aug. 9 from 7 to 11 p.m. at the Seminole Hard Rock Hotel & Casino, 5223 N. Orient Rd., Tampa. The donation to attend is $10 and proceeds from the concert will go to first responder charities including the Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office's Lynn Sowers Memorial Foundation and the Hillsborough Firefighters Benevolent Relief Fund.
Travis Messman, a dancer with The Ultimate Thriller, a Michael Jackson tribute concert, will conduct a dance workshop for age 6 to adults. The event is being hosted by Temple Terrace Ballet where Messman will be teaching modern dance this coming year. The class will be held Saturday, Aug. 10 at the Temple Terrace Family Recreation Complex, 6610 Whiteway Dr., Temple Terrace. Class 1 for ages 6 to 9 will be from noon to 1 p.m.; Class 2 for age 9 and up will be from 1 to 2 p.m. The cost is $10, or $5 for recreation complex members.
Escape the heat and cool off Aug. 9-11 from 2 to 5 p.m. at the Museum of Science & Industry, 4801 E. Fowler Ave., Tampa, with half-price general admission. While you're there, check out Iron Man 3 in IMAX DOME Theatre for a limited engagement (movie tickets are an additional cost).
Head over to Gaspar's Patio & Grill, 8448 N. 56th St., Temple Terrace, Friday at 8 p.m. and Saturday at 9 p.m. for live music and drink specials.Â
Shamrock's Ale House, 7805 Temple Terrace Highway, Temple Terrace, hosts live music every Friday from 9:30 p.m. to 1:30 a.m. and karaoke every Saturday from 9 p.m. to 1 a.m.
