Maggie the Havanese dog belongs to Barb and Les Tuttle. She just turned 5 years old Dec. 7.

The Havanese is the national dog of Cuba, Barb explained. They are their own breed, but they are a mixture of three other breeds: bichon; toy poodle; and maltese. They don't shed, and they can be any of a multitude of colors.

The Tuttles rescued Maggie in Illionois when she was 2 years old. Barb drove her back to Temple Terrace in her minivan.

“She is the light of our lives,” Barb said.
