Plants, Gardening Knowledge to Bloom at Spring Market

The Temple Terrace Garden Club's 10th annual Spring Market will take place March 16.

Although your calendar might mark the vernal equinox for later this month, spring is beginning in Temple Terrace on March 16 this year.

That’s the day the Temple Terrace Garden Club is having its annual Spring Market at Woodmont Park, 8 a.m.-3 p.m., rain or shine.

β€œTen years ago, the Temple Terrace Garden Club had an idea,” wrote club member Cheri Donohue in a listing for the event on Temple Terrace Patch. β€œSince the city was holding their annual clean-up days, why not invite the community into Woodmont Park for a Spring Market where plant vendors and garden items would be available for sprucing up our yards.”

Since then, the market has grown to include more than 60 vendors selling plants, pots and accessories for home and personal beautification.

β€œAs to the plants,” Donohue wrote, β€œthe club is very particular that every plant vendor be the actual grower or have extensive knowledge of the plants they bring for sale. Return visitors remark that the ability to talk to the actual β€˜expert’ gives them the confidence to try new plants. This is an invaluable teaching tool that cannot be found in a big box garden center.”

Food and beverages will be available for purchase, and there will also be an art show, free entertainment, and activities for kids.

β€œThere is always something new at the event, but the traditional and repeating vendorsβ€”especially the plant growersβ€”are full of advice about what to plant in my shady yard,” Donohue said of why people should check out the Spring Market this year.Β β€œThey stake their reputations on selling me the right plant for the right place.”
