Temple Terrace Buys Batteries in Anticipation of Storm
Tropical Storm Isaac is on its way, and stores seem to be running low on batteries and other items you'd expect to go first.
Kandee Ellison, assistant manager at , was off Friday and Saturday, but she quickly realized when the store opened Sunday morning that customers had been coming in for batteries.
There were empty pegs in the battery display where Energizers and Duracells had been. Customers had also come in to buy flashlights, spray sealant and propane.
“A lot of people are filling up their tanks and buying tanks,” she said.

“My order is usually 14 pages,” she added, holding up sheets of paper with lists of items. “Today, it’s 18 pages, which means there’s been more business over the weekend.”
Over at on 53rd Street, batteries were also in shorter supply that normal. Employees were restocking dairy products and jugs of water. Extra bottled water could be found at the front of the store and in the shampoo and cosmetics aisle. Bread, dog and cat food, and toilet paper also seemed to be stocked below average Sunday morning.

Reader and Facebook fan said batteries were missing from pegs at the on Busch Boulevard as well.
Although stores were short on typical hurricane items, you’d never know by driving around Temple Terrace.
It was a classic quiet Sunday morning as gas pumps were free of cars and families pushed children in strollers. A Gillette Avenue resident went for his customary walk, carrying an umbrella just in case. A Riverhills Drive resident completed his weekly lawn mowing.
