USF Police Corporal Receives Drug-Free World Hero Award

Cpl. Scott Parker received the honor from the Florida Chapter of the Foundation for a Drug-Free World.

TAMPA, FL – A University of South Florida police officer was honored for helping his community stay clean and sober.

USF Police Cpl. Scott Parker was named one of five recipients to receive the 2017 Drug-Free World Hero Award from the Florida Chapter of the Foundation for a Drug-Free World. He received the award at the organization’s annual awards banquet at Fort Harrison in Clearwater on April 29.

The annual banquet honors community leaders, educators and law enforcement personnel who help create a drug-free world through their education and prevention efforts.

A nine-year veteran of the USF Police Department, Parker currently leads the department’s DUI initiatives, including Sobriety and Comprehensive Roadside Safety Checkpoints. He was named USF’s Police Officer of the Year and received an outstanding performance award by Mothers Against Drunk Driving for his DUI enforcement efforts. In 2012, Parker was named Community Officer of the Year for the USF Police Department.

Parker’s service to the community includes providing hundreds of hours of group presentations on drug and alcohol awareness and emerging drug trends to students, faculty, staff, community members and local government agencies. He’s also an instructor at Hillsborough Community College, where he teaches Standard Field Sobriety Testing and specialized DUI training courses.

Parker is a Drug Recognition Expert and certified through the Advanced Roadside Impaired Driving Enforcement program. He is active with MADD, the Hillsborough County Anti-Drug Alliance and the Tampa Alcohol Coalition.

The Foundation for a Drug-Free World is a nonprofit benefit corporation that seeks to empower children and adults with factual information about drugs so they can make informed decisions.
