The Little Flippers program at Westchase Swim and Tennis Center will be offered all year long, a change to accommodate more youth swimmers.

Youth swimmers looking to further perfect their skills will be able to participate in a popular Westchase swimming program througout the year now.

The Little Flippers swimming program, offered for novice swimmers between 6-12 years old, wil now be offered 12 months of the year. Previously the program was May - October.

"The group starting getting bigger," said Kelly Shires, operations director at the swim and tennis center. "And parents had been asking for it to be expanded."

Little Flippers is not a swim lesson class, Shires points out.

"It's a building block for the swim team," said Joshua Youngblood, head lifeguard at the swim and tennis center pool. For kids to participate they must know four basic strokes: freestyle, back stroke, breast and butterfly.

Well known swim instructor Kelley Allen "Coach Kelley" teaches the class. After taking Little Flippers youth can try out to qualify for the Westchase's competitive swim team.

"Parents are real enthusiastic about their kids being on the team," Shires said.

Little Flippers meets Monday-Thursday, 3-4pm. The cost is $60 per month for residents and $90 for non-residents.
