Diwali Celebration Could Include Fireworks: City

This five-day Hindu holiday referred to as the festival of lights could include fireworks, the city of Milton said.

MILTON, GA — The city of Milton is informing residents not to be alarmed if they hear fireworks over the weekend. That's because Diwali, a Hindu holiday referred to as the festival of lights, is a five-day festival that's currently being celebrated by its followers.

On the third day, families gather for a celebratory meal and often use fireworks to celebrate. The city said Saturday in an email to alert its community that there is a possibility you will hear fireworks over the weekend.

Neighbors celebrating the holiday have notified the city of Milton of an organized fireworks celebration set for 8:15 p.m. to 8:45 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 3 in the 600 block of North Main Street.

Residents should also keep in mind that may be other impromptu family celebrations over the weekend and leading up to Wednesday, Nov. 7.

"We also want to remind our neighbors celebrating Diwali to consider notifying neighbors of fireworks use, especially those equestrian and large animal neighbors," the city said. "This courtesy notices allows animals exposed outdoors to be secured."
