The Georgia Department of Transportation has announced work set to take place overnights along Ga. Highway 11/Broad Street involving the installation of new water and storm sewer lines.

A single lane closure will begin at 9 p.m. and continue to 6 a.m. the next day, Tuesday night through Friday morning, weather permitting. No lane closures are planned tonight, Friday, Saturday or Sunday nights.

On Tuesday night, the outside northbound lane will be closed from the Railroad crossing to Athens Street. Tuesday night through Thursday nights, the outside northbound lane will be closed from Laura Street to Candler Street. Parking spaces will be closed overnight as crews work in these areas. Work to build two new retention walls adjacent to Broad Street in front of Broad Street Finance, Locos Grill & Pub and American Pest Control will begin. The sidewalk will be narrowed but will remain accessible.

The work is part of an almost $5 million project to rebuild .72 miles of Broad Street from the ground up, creating a stronger driving surface that the DOT says will last decades. Enhancement work includes new sidewalks, curb and gutter, benches, lighting and landscaping.
