Understanding Barrow County Restaurant Health Inspections: Not Every Violation is Equal in Points Deducted from Score

This form shows how restaurants and establishments that provide food services are assessed and what points are deducted for various violations.

The following is recent inspection information for three Barrow County restaurants with explanations of points deducted for violations. Restaurants start out with a score of 100 and a specific number of points are deducted from that score based on the type of violation. The number of points deducted for each violation is pre-determined by the state.

  • NINE POINTS DEDUCTED for Violation of: 6-1A. Proper cold holding temperatures (Basket of eggs sitting out at grill at 45 degrees. Corrected on site by discarding. Place eggs under refrigeration when not in use remove smaller portions at time.) 

Non-critical violation:

  • ONE POINT DEDUCTED for Violation of: 15B. Warewashing facilities: installed, maintained, used; test strips (Three compartment sink set up incorrectly, sanitizer in second compartment. Corrected on site by instructing person in charge to set up sink to wash, rinse, sanitize.)

  • FOUR POINTS DEDUCTED for Violation of: 2-2D. Adequate handwashing facilities supplied & accessible (No paper towels at kitchen or employee restroom handsink. Corrected on site by refilling.) 
  • THREE POINTS DEDUCTED for Violation of: 18. Insects, rodents, and animals not present (Live roach seen under shelving.) 

Old House Restaurant, P.O. Box 12, Statham

  • ONE POINT DEDUCTED for Violation of: 14C. Single-use/single-service articles: properly stored, used (Single service drink cups stored at self service soda fountain out of protective liner.) 
  • ONE POINT DEDUCTED for Violation of: 15A. Food and nonfood-contact surfaces cleanable, properly designed, constructed, and used (Kitchen staff was found reusing single use grocery bags to cover pans of biscuits.) 
  • TWO POINTS DEDUCTED for Violation of: 16C. Sewage and waste water properly disposed (Raw sewage surfacing from septic system drainfield at time of inspection.) 
  • THREE POINTS DEDUCTED for Violation of: 18. Insects, rodents, and animals not present (Screen door in kitchen not 100 percent self closing or sealing.)
