'Dumpster Diving'; Buford Residents Face Loitering, Prowling Charges

The suspects were observed behind a shopping complex before 5 a.m.

Two Buford residents were arrested Tuesday (June 25) on loitering and prowling charges after they were seen by Gwinnett Police behind a shopping center shortly before 5 a.m.

Melba L. Rosenburg and Adam W. Chumley, both of the same Cherrywood Circle address in Buford, were arrested behind a shopping area that is known for commercial burglaries and vehicle thefts, according to the Gwinnett Police incident report.

Asked what they were doing behind the locked retail business at 4:47 a.m., Rosenburg told the officer, "Dumpster diving."

After twice giving a false name to police, Chumley finally provided his true identity, and a police check revealed that he was wanted for a parole violation in Kennesaw. Also, a police check showed that Rosenburg had a history of theft.

Police noted that her vehicle was parked to allow for rear entry into the businesses, and also allowed access to a parked tractor-trailer and several parked vehicles behind the complex.

When police searched Rosenburg's vehicle after impounding it, they found a large crowbar and several flashlights.
