Roadway Reopened, Update On Huge Fire That Destroyed 86 Boats
Fire crews left the scene at 2:30 p.m. and the roadway was reopened. Firefighters will check back every few hours this evening.
BUFORD, GA — Fire Investigators spent much of the afternoon sifting through the charred debris at Buford Dam Road Boat Storage. Per fire investigators, the blaze appears to have started in an area mid-way down the building between two boats and a pull-behind camper. No injuries have been reported.
The exact cause of the fire is still undetermined and is under active investigation. There was a steady flow of patrons stopping by today who have boats or RV/campers that were destroyed by the blaze. Buford Dam Road at Little Mill Road was blocked until late in the afternoon due to fire equipment and hose lines in the roadway.
Firefighters report a total loss to approximately 86 boats and four vehicles. An adjoining motorcycle shop is also damaged.

Per Hazmat, there were no hazardous readings found on the chemical classifier strips used to test ponding water due to runoff. The National Response Center was notified concerning the runoff. Fire crews left the scene around 2:30 p.m. and the roadway was reopened to motorists. A fire truck will check back every few hours this evening to make sure there are no smoldering areas.
