State School Superintendent Dr. John Barge announced Tuesday that Big Creek Elementary in Forsyth has been named among the "2012 Georgia Schools of Excellence" in highest progress.
A total of 28 schools across the state received the honor, which highlights the highest performance and greatest gains in the College and Career-Ready Performance Index. Each school will get a $1,000 check from Georgia Natural Gas.
"These schools are the epitome of excellence," said State Superintendent John Barge. "It took us a while to name the 2012 Schools of Excellence, but we wanted to measure them based on our College and Career Ready Performance Index rather than the old measure.
