Big Creek Greenway Extension Begins in Forsyth

Construction of Phase 4 of the Big Creek Greenway is underway and will extend the popular walking and biking trail from the Bethelview Road trail head to Kelly Mill Road.

The Forsyth County News reports that the Forsyth County Parks and Recreation Board received an update this past week on the extension that will cost about $2.8 million.

A $100 million parks and green space bond approved by voters in 2008 is providing funding for the Big Creek Greenway. An early February update from the county on proposed bond projects is attached with this article.

The greenway, a linear park, in Forsyth is a 12-foot wide concrete and boardwalk path meandering through the deciduous woods along Big Creek. It offers an ideal setting for walking, jogging, biking and inline skating. 

Phases 1, 2 and 3 of Forsyth's Big Creek Greenway, which span from McFarland Parkway to Bethelview, total about 6.8 miles, according to the county's website. Forsyth plans to add Phases 4 and 5, which would result in an approximate 16-mile Big Creek Greenway.
