Cumming Intersection To Shift Friday Night
Moving traffic on about 250 feet of roadway at the intersection of state Highways 141 and 9 is expected to cause delays.

A portion of the roadway at aΒ Cumming intersection is set shift Friday night, Georgia Department of Transportation officials said in a press release.
The traffic shift at the intersection ofΒ state Highways 9 andΒ 141, orΒ Bethelview Road,Β is scheduled forΒ Sept. 6,Β weather permitting.
About 250 feet of each roadway will shift as it approaches the intersection. The shift will progress in sections overnight, requiringΒ lane closures and traffic delays in the area as the traffic shift occurs.Β Β

If weather cooperates, the traffic changes are expected toΒ beginΒ FridayΒ night and be complete byΒ 8 a.m. Saturday.Β
GDOT officialsΒ sayΒ shifting traffic from its original locationΒ allows it to continue to flow in the newly-built section of roadway while work occurs in the original lanes.

The $4.6 million construction project, awarded to C.W. Matthews, a Marietta-basedΒ contractor, will reconstruct the existing intersection of Highway 141, orΒ Bethelview Road, and Highway 9, creating two through lanes, two left turning lanes and a right turning lane for each leg of the intersection.Β
The project also upgrades the traffic signal equipment and constructs sidewalks.Β
"This is a WORK ZONE and extreme caution is necessary for motorists and workers,"Β DOT District Construction Engineer Harold Mull said in the release. "Please slow down as you travel through this work zone.Β
"Message signs are in place now to alert the community of the upcoming changes. We appreciate your cautious driving through the area."Β
The project is expected toΒ complete byΒ April 30, 2014.
