Cumming Staffer Killed In Truck Crash Identified
The inventory clerk who was killed after being by a truck in a city parking lot in Cumming was identified Wednesday.

CUMMING, GA β The staffer who died after being hit by a truck on city property earlier in the week was identified Wednesday.
Cumming officials said the crash on Monday morning claimed the life of Crystal Sawyer, 44. She was an inventory clerk in the Cumming Utilities Distribution and Collection Division.
The crash happened around 7 a.m. in the parking lot of the City of Cumming Water Facilities, located at Dahlonega Highway, the Forsyth County Sheriff's Office said at the time.

Sawyer was pronounced dead at the scene, city officials said. The FCSO's Traffic Specialist Unit is investigating the fatal crash, authorities said.
βAs we stated on Monday, everyone at the City of Cumming is completely devastated following this
horrible accident,β Cumming City Administrator Phil Higgins said in a news release. βBut we are now prepared to release the name of the beloved City of Cumming employee whose life was tragically cut short during Mondayβs tragedy.β

Sawyer began working on Sept. 8, 2020 in the Utilities Billing Division at City Hall, city officials said. She was transferred to distribution and collection on June 28, 2023.
The Dawsonville native was born on Aug. 29, 1980, according to her obituary.
The city plans to fly flags at half-staff from Friday to March 21 in Sawyer's honor.
βCrystal was a treasured City of Cumming employee with a bubbly, outgoing personality who made everyone she encountered feel welcome,β Higgins said in the release.
βShe also had a very fun sense of humor and kept her co-workers laughing. She was a hard worker who was loved by all her supervisors and co-workers. In addition to her work life, Crystal was a wonderful wife and mother, beloved daughter, sister and friend to so many. I cannot stress enough how completely heartbroken everyone at the City of Cumming is following Crystalβs passing. We are all keeping her family in our prayers as they navigate these very difficult days.β
A visitation for Sawyer will be held from 4-8 p.m. Sunday at McDonald and Son Funeral Home, 150 Sawnee Drive in Cumming, according to her obituary. A celebration of life will be held at a later date.
The family is accepting flowers. People can also donate to the Humane Society of Forsyth County in Sawyer's name.
