- We have an update on yesterday's report of a major accident on GA-400 South in Cumming. - On Mar. 7, Georgia Senate Republicans passed Senate Bill 233, which aims to extend private school vouchers to public school students. The legislation, sponsored primarily by Senator Greg Dolezal (R-Cumming), would offer $6,000 in annual state funds to the parents of each student who chooses private schooling. Parents would have the option to use the money for tuition and other education-related expenses but would be entirely responsible for their child's education. Proponents note that the bill would not increase state expenditures, since the amount is equivalent to the average paid for public school students. (Subscription: The Atlanta Journal Constitution)
- ADDA Sports Pub & Eatery in nearby Suwanee failed a recent health inspection due to several violations, including storing a full can of gasoline under the dishwasher. According to the inspector, the kitchen also had a large hole in the wall with visible debris and food, and several food items were discarded due to unsafe temperatures. This marks the eatery's second consecutive failing score, receiving a 60/U in February and a 39/U in the most recent inspection. (The Atlanta Journal-Constitution)
- At the Forsyth County Board of Commissioners' Mar. 2 meeting, Chief Information Officer (CIO) and Assistant County Manager Brandon Kenney received recognition for his service to the community. During his tenure as CIO, he managed the County's information technology initiatives, which included a redesign of the County website. As Assistant County Manager, he oversaw several County departments and was a finalist for the Georgia CIO of the Year Award in the Nonprofit/Public Sector category. (Press Release Desk)
