Forsyth Central High's S.T.E.M. Program Top in Georgia

The award was created to recognize and honor individuals and organizations for their outstanding effort and achievement in supporting and promoting STEM education in the state.

The Technology Association of Georgia and its Education Collaborative have awarded Forsyth Central High School’s S.T.E.M. Academy the 2013 Georgia High SchoolΒ S.T.E.M.Β Education Award. This is the second year for the award presentation, which was created to recognize and honor individuals and organizations for their outstanding effort and achievement in supporting and promotingΒ S.T.E.M.Β education in Georgia.

β€œRecent studies predict that Georgia will need to fill more than 211,000 STEM-related jobsΒ by the year 2018,” TAG President/CEOΒ Tino Mantella said in a press release. β€œAs a result, we have to get our kids interested in STEM today, so that they are better prepared to seize the opportunities oftomorrow. Today’s event is just one way that TAG is helping to promote and celebrate STEM Education in Georgia and we congratulate this year’s finalists and winners.”

More thanΒ 170 applicantsΒ in eight different categoriesΒ competed in the Second Annual Georgia STEM Education Awards.Β 

Forsyth Central is the high school winner, along withΒ Hightower Elementary STEM School inΒ DeKalb County andΒ Rossville Middle School inΒ Walker County.

β€œWe are all extremely proud of our STEM Academy at Forsyth Central HS being recognized as the High School STEM Program for 2013,” Forsyth County SchoolsΒ SuperintendentΒ Buster Evans said in the release. β€œIn three short years the teachers at Forsyth Central HS have created a lighthouse program for the nation that is providing outstanding science, technology ,engineering and mathematical instruction in the classroom and professional opportunities with strong community partners. This recognition is well deserved.”
