Forsyth Commissioners Oppose Proposed Residential Design Bills
A residential design bill in the Georgia legislature would preempt local building design standards.
FORSYTH COUNTY, GA β At their Feb. 26, work session, the Forsyth County Board of Commissioners approved a resolution opposing a residential design bill in the Georgia legislature that would preempt local building design standards.
The resolution is an expression of the Boardβs opposition to HB302 and SB172, which attempt to remove local governmentβs ability to implement building design standards. If passed, local governments would no longer be able to create standards such as character areas, which has traditionally been one of the hallmarks of good planning.
βI canβt think of anything worse than taking away the citizenβs right to have a voice,β said Vice-Chairman Cindy Jones Mills. βAll the meetings, all of the things the local community has done β to say that those things no longer matter - itβs not right.β
