Forsyth County Schools' Enrollment Tops 40,500

Forsyth County Schools today released updated 2013-2014 enrollment data and the number of students served by the system has surpassed expectations.

While the 36-school system ended the 2012-2013 school year with about 39,190 students—after adding 1,722 new pupils during the year, according to Superintendent L.C. "Buster" Evans—it started this school year projecting enrollment of about 40,300 students.

The system has actually grown to 40,668 students, hundreds more than administrators had expected for the 2013-2014 school year, according to a school and grade-level breakdown referenced on its Facebook page and published on its website.

Elementary schools seem to account for the most of the unexpected growth with 343 more students than projected, but the middle and high schools also are bigger with 79 and 11 students, respectively, more than projected.

Forsyth Schools' enrollment has grown more than 5 percent since last year, according to a presentation given at the Aug. 15 board of education meeting.
