Forsyth County Schools' Enrollment Tops 40,500
The system with 36 schools, which ended last school year with more than 39,000 students, has grown in enrollment more than 5 percent.
Forsyth County Schools today released updated 2013-2014 enrollment data and the number of students served by the system has surpassed expectations.
While the 36-school system ended the 2012-2013 schoolΒ year with about 39,190 studentsβafter addingΒ 1,722 new pupilsΒ during the year, according to SuperintendentΒ L.C. "Buster" Evansβit started this school year projecting enrollment ofΒ about 40,300 students.
The system has actually grown to 40,668 students, hundredsΒ more than administrators had expected for the 2013-2014 school year, according to a school and grade-level breakdown referenced on its Facebook pageΒ and published on its website.
Elementary schools seem to account for the most of the unexpectedΒ growth with 343 more students than projected, but the middle and high schools also are bigger withΒ 79 and 11 students, respectively, more than projected.
Forsyth Schools'Β enrollment has grown more than 5 percent since last year, according to a presentation given atΒ the Aug. 15 board of education meeting.
