Forsyth Drug Awareness Summit Date Set
The summit in Cumming will also serve as a drug take back event.

The Forsyth County Drug Awareness Council has set the date for its next drug awareness summit in Cumming.
The summit will begin at 6 p.m. on Oct. 26 at the Lanier Tech Conference Center and will feature presentations from the Forsyth County Sheriff’s Office as well as an opportunity for people to turn in unwanted prescription medication for proper disposal.
Dr. Merrill Norton, a Clinical Associate Professor at the University of Georgia College of Pharmacy, will be the keynote speaker for the event. Norton specializes in addiction pharmacy and runs a private practice to treat addicts who suffer from additional mental illnesses.

Organizers are billing the summit as, “your chance to get questions answered and to know what to look for” when dealing with potential substance abuse.
“Each of us knows someone with substance abuse. We must end the secrecy and stigma of this disease. We must educate our youth of the dangers and we must come together as a community to elicit change. There is something each of us can do.”
