Forsyth Man Arrested for Allegedly Making Terroristic Threats

Joseph "Joe" John Medved, 51, of Cumming was taken into custody Thursday.

AΒ 51-year-old Forsyth County man was arrestedΒ ThursdayΒ for allegedly making terroristic threatsΒ aimed at β€œshooting up a school with a long rifle,” authorities said.

The U.S. Marshall’s Service and the Forsyth County Sheriff’s Office took Joseph β€œJoe” John Medved, 51, of Goldmine Road, in Cumming into custody without incident at his home.

MedvedΒ allegedly madeΒ the comment somewhere in Fulton County about shooting up a schoolΒ on Wednesday,Β Sept. 11. It was the same dayΒ he attempted to purchase a rifle at a pawn shop in Forsyth County, but was unable to due to a 24-hour background check, a press release stated.


Authorities sayΒ Medved went back to the pawn shop Thursday morning (Sept. 12)Β where he was able to purchase a shotgun once his background checkΒ was cleared.Β 

"A few minutes later we started receiving reports of Joseph MedvedΒ shooting the shotgun near a road at his home in Forsyth County," Deputy Sheriff Doug Rainwater said in the release.

The Fulton County Sheriff’s Office was able to secure a warrant in FultonΒ County for terroristic threats and acts for the comments MedvedΒ made the day before (Sept. 11).

The apprehension of Medved wasΒ a collective effort by the Forsyth County Sheriff’s Office, The U.S.Β Marshall’s Service and the U.S. Joint Terrorism Task Force.

School officials wereΒ updated on the eventsΒ taking place by the Forsyth County Sheriff's Office.
