Forsyth Schools Release Redistricting First Draft

Parents and stakeholders are asked to provide input on the proposed plan.

Forsyth Schools officials today released a first draft of a plan to redistrict, a move aimed atΒ relieving overcrowding and populate existing schools, according to the system'sΒ website.Β

The biggest changes in theΒ plan to redraw the system's lines could come for some students atΒ Brookwood and Sharon elementary schools, portions of whichΒ could feed to different middle and high schools, according to a summary of the proposal, above.Β

TheΒ redistricting would mostly affect schools in the southern portion ofΒ Forsyth County, includingΒ Sharon,Β Settles Bridge,Β Daves Creek,Β Midway, Big Creek,Β Brookwood,Β Haw CreekΒ and Johns CreekΒ elementary schools.

Daves Creek, Shiloh Point and Big Creek would see fewer students, while enrollment numbers atΒ Brookwood, Haw Creek and Sharon would rise.

Lakeside andΒ South ForsythΒ middle schools also would see a boost in enrollment to relieveΒ overcrowding atΒ Riverwatch. Officials don't intent to redistrict the high schools, "however lines will be reviewed/considered based on elementary and middle school changes," according to the website.

Parents and students can have their say by filling out an onlineΒ survey.
