Forsyth Schools OKs Plan To Redistrict for 2014-2015 Year
Officials this fall plan to redraw school district lines in Cumming and Forsyth County to relieve overcrowding and populate existing schools.

Forsyth County SchoolsΒ this fallΒ will be redistricting for the 2014-2015 school year, three years after the last time officials redrew school district lines in 2011,Β according to a plan the board of education approved at its August meeting.Β
The move comes as Forsyth Schools top 40,500 in enrollment, which is more than officials expected for the 2013-2014 school year.Β It's neededΒ to relieve overcrowding and populate existing schools, according to the system, and will concentrate onΒ two areasβelementary and middle school redistricting.Β
Elementary school redistricting will primarily affect Daves Creek, Midway, SeKles BridgeΒ and Shiloh PointΒ elementary schools, butΒ also will impactΒ Big Creek, Brookwood, Haw Creek, Johns Creek, MashburnΒ and Sharon elementary schools.
Middle school redistrictingΒ willΒ primarilyΒ affectΒ Riverwatch,Β but also impactΒ South ForsythΒ and Lakeside middle schools. While officials have no plans to redistrict high schools, they will review and consider it based on the changes to the elementary and middle schools.
Officials are set to share the first draft of the proposed new districts both in schools and online for a round of community feedback Sept. 13 toΒ 27. The board of education is expected to consider a final draft in October, the approval of which would be followed by two public forums:
Elementary Redistricting Public Form
When: Oct. 22 at 6 p.m. Β
Where: South Forsyth High School
Secondary RedistrictingΒ Public FormΒ
When:Β Oct. 24 at 6 p.m. Β
Where:Β South Forsyth High School
The proposal would thenΒ be posted in schools and online for a second round of community feedback Oct. 21 to Nov. 1. Final approval from the board is expected in late November.Β Β
