After a brief uptick last month, the national average for regular unleaded gasoline had fallen for 16 consecutive days, AAA said.

β€œGas prices keep falling because oil prices are low and gasoline supply continues to outpace demand,” spokesman Mark Jenkins said in the AAA’s weekly gas price brief. β€œBarring any unanticipated disruptions in supply, or spikes in the price of crude oil, the national average could fall below the $2 per gallon threshold for the first time since 2009 before the end of year.”

The lowest price reported Monday in Cumming on AtlantaGasPrice.com was $1.95.
