GDOT Extends Comment Period for SR 20 Corridor Alternatives

The Georgia Department of Transportation (GDOT) announces it has extended the opportunity to provide public input on the proposed alternatives for the State Route (SR) 20 corridor from I-575 in Canton to SR 400 in Cumming. Comments will now be accepted until Monday, October 19, 2015, via mail, email, or MetroQuest, an online submission platform.

GDOT has completed another phase in the evaluation to reduce the number of alternatives proposed for the State Route (SR) 20 corridor from I-575 in Canton to SR 400 in Cumming. State Route 20 has exceeded its capacity and multiple improvements are needed to reduce congestion and improve safety and mobility in Cherokee and Forsyth counties. The recently completed Screen 2 analysis reduced the larger number of alternatives to a reasonable range of two strategies – widening existing SR 20 or widening the existing corridor with localized bypasses. The Department will continue refining and evaluating these options in preparation for the Draft Environmental Impact Statement (DEIS).

At the September 15 and September 17 Public Information Open Houses held in Cherokee and Forsyth counties, GDOT officials presented the results of the Screen 2 Analysis, sharing the alternatives to advance for additional study.
