Golfers Find Body Off Fairway At Lake Lanier

The Hall County Sheriff's Office is investigating the death of a woman whose body was discovered Friday morning.

LAKE LANIER, GA –The Hall County Sheriff’s Office is investigating the death of a woman whose body was discovered Friday morning near the shore of Lake Lanier on the south end of the county.

Golfers found the body in the water off of one of the course fairways at Lake Lanier Islands in the vicinity of Legacy and Villa lanes. Deputies received the call about the discovery at roughly 10:45 a.m.

Investigators found the woman’s car parked in the same area the body was found. Some of her belongings, including identification and phone, remained in the vehicle. The woman, in her early 50s, is believed to be from the metro Atlanta area.

The preliminary investigation indicated the body hadn’t been in the water for long. An employee of the resort had noticed the woman’s car as early as 6 a.m. Friday, in the same spot deputies found it. Detectives found no indications of foul play during the initial investigation. An autopsy is pending, and the case remains under investigation.

The Hall County Sheriff’s Office is working to notify the woman’s family members. Her name is being withheld at this time.
