Here are the top five stories in Cumming today:

  1. A man has been arrested after leading Forsyth County deputies on a high-speed chase near Cumming on Sep. 24. Officials say two vehicles reached speeds of more than 150 miles per hour after being clocked by a patrol car stationed on Highway 400. While one driver exited the highway and was not apprehended, officers arrested 27-year-old Tejas Desai after pulling him over on Pilgrim Mill Road. (news.com.au)
  2. A football player from Forsyth County helped the Navy Midshipmen secure a victory over the Army during a sprint football matchup on Sep. 23. Carter Mullikin of Cumming earned the team a touchdown after carrying a 12-yard pass into the end zone. The team's 27-13 victory at Navy-Marine Corps Memorial Stadium earned the Navy the first Star of the 2022-23 Army-Navy Star Series. (NavySports.com)
  3. Disaster response crews from Cumming have been dispatched to Florida to help mitigate flood damage caused by Hurricane Ian. Kory Kappes, who leads the Servpro team based out of Cumming, says his crew is well-equipped to clear out floodwater from damaged homes and businesses as quickly as possible. Crews estimate that it may take months for repairs to be completed in some areas most heavily impacted. (WSB Atlanta)
  4. The East Forsyth Broncos dealt a devastating blow to the East Hall Vikings during Thursday night's football game. With a final score of 45-0, the Broncos eclipsed a 40-point total for the third time this season and lowered their average points allowed per game to 4.2. The team, which now boasts a 4-1 season record, will next face off against Cherokee Bluff in a critical region home game on Friday, Oct. 7. (Forsyth County News)
  5. A former Forsyth County bus driver has been indicted on counts of driving under the influence and reckless conduct for an incident that occurred in August 2021. Officials say Lesli Carole Davis was driving students from North Forsyth High School when she experienced chest pains and was taken to Northside Hospital. Toxicology results revealed the driver had a blood alcohol level of about .2, more than double the state limit of .08. (WSB-TV 2 Atlanta)
