- Forsyth County officials are preparing for the impact of Hurricane Ian after Governor Brian Kemp announced a state of emergency order on Tuesday. According to a news release from the county government, the area may see 2-3 inches of rain and winds up to 40 miles per hour as early as Friday morning. Residents can sign up for emergency and weather alerts from the county here. (Forsyth County News)
- The Forsyth County Board of Commissioners recently approved a $13.8 million construction contract to upgrade two local fire stations. Fire Stations 9 and 15 will be replaced with new structures using an updated design that will double their size and provide updated technology and amenities. While a construction timeline has not been confirmed by officials, a representative for Forsyth County says they expect to hold groundbreakings for the projects in late October or early November. - Thereβs still time to register for the iChallenge to support the Forsyth County Education Foundation. By joining in this fitness challenge from Oct. 3-31, participants can create healthy habits while raising funds to help combat the teacher and school counselor shortage. - The Forsyth County Health Department and Forsyth County Schools are partnering to host a free flu shot clinic on Wednesday, Oct. 19. Children ages 4-18 can stop by the ACE Building in Cumming from 2:00-6:00 p.m. to receive their free annual vaccination. All children must be accompanied by a parent or guardian. - There are only a few spots left to sponsor the 5th Annual United Way of Forsyth County Invitational on Oct. 10.
