It's Election Day, and the fates of TSPLOST, along with Forsyth County commissioner [Districts 2, 4 and 5], coroner, sheriff, state senator [District 27] and many others, are now in your hands.

As of Friday, July 27, the reports there was a total of 8,866 votes by residents who either voted early, in advance, or absentee vote by mail.

"I am very happy, we've actually surpassed the advance in office and early voting that we had in 2008 and in 2010 primaries," said Barbara Luth, supervisor of the department.

The breakdown of votes is as follows:

  • Advance Voting Totals - 5613 (Democrats 277/Republicans 5193/NonPartisan 143)
  • Early Voting Totals - 2732 (Democrats 100/Republicans 2582/NonPartisan 50)
  • Absentee Ballots by mail returned - 521 (Democrats 49/Republicans 456/NonPartisan 16)

  (Provides for local transportation projects to create jobs, improve roads and safety with citizen oversight.)

The question as it appears on the ballot, "Shall Forsyth County’s transportation system and the transportation network in this region and the state be improved by providing for a 1-percent special district transportation sales and use tax for the purpose of transportation projects and programs for a period of ten years?"

County Commissioners: There are three seats that are being challenged, one in each District (2, 4 and 5), this election season. The seats up for election this year include, District 5, which covers much of east Forsyth, between and challenger . In District 4, which covers a good area of north Forsyth, the candidates vying for that seat are , opponents , ,  and . In District 2, which covers a portion of south Forsyth, the race is between , and challenger

State Senate:  in the race for State Senate District 27 in Forsyth County in May. His seat is being challenged by , he too announced his candidacy in May.

Sheriff: Two Republicans are seeking the Sheriff's Office in Forsyth County, , and  for the past 11 years and a volunteer firefighter for 24 years. , was elected in 2000.

Coroner: Three Republican candidates are seeking to become the next coroner of Forsyth County. ; , and , a licensed funeral director The seat is up for grabs since  announced his bid for sheriff in March.

Polls will be open from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.
