Here are the top five stories today in Cumming:

  1. Democratic Georgia lawmakers, reproductive health care providers, and abortion rights advocates held a news conference yesterday to call for passage of the Reproductive Freedom Act. The conference occurred two days after what would have been a significant milestone of 50 years since the Roe v. Wade decision. "We are doing everything we can because life matters, and we love each and every person because they matter to God, therefore they matter to us," said former State Rep. Sheri Gilligan, R-Cumming.   2. Over 100 miles of express lanes will be added to metro Atlanta interstate highways in the next decade. The biggest project will be to expand Georgia 400, adding express lanes on a 16-mile stretch through north Fulton County into south Forsyth County. (WSB-TV)
  3. The Forsyth County Chamber’s 2023 Women Connect Kickoff Breakfast is happening this morning, Jan. 25, at 8:00 a.m. at Cumming Recreation and Parks. Prices for members is $10 and non-members is $20. You can view more details at the link here. (Forsyth County Chamber)
  4. The University of North Georgia (UNG) hosted its third annual virtual college information session for Realizing Educational Achievement Can Happen (REACH) Georgia students. REACH Georgia is the state's first-ever needs-based mentorship and college scholarship program. The keynote speaker at the event was UNG graduate Noah Bryant who served as Student Government Association (SGA) president on the Cumming Campus. (University of Northern Georgia)
  5. The region's growing population has affected another Atlanta market shopping center. Trademark's already plans on turning the North Point Mall in Alpharetta into a mixed-use center and CTO Realty Growth will be repositioning Ashford Lane in Dunwoody, and now CTO has hired JLL to reposition and lease The Collection at Forsyth in Cumming. Forsyth County’s population has increased by 47 percent and is the second richest county in the state. (Chain Store Age)
