Letter to the Editor: State Senate Race Candidates
The opinion(s) expressed here are those of the writer and not of Cumming Patch. If you have something to share send liz.kennedy@patch.com a "Letter to the Editor."

Dear Editor,
I find it disturbing that elected Republican officials will endorse and even help raise funds for a current incumbent who is running against another Republican.
I’m referring to the race between Jack Murphy and Steve Voshall for our State Senate seat 27, which encompasses 98 percent of our county.

Jack Murphy is the sitting Chairman of the Banking and Finance Committee and became such after the bank (Integrity Bank) he was a board member on went out of business and used over $200m of FDIC funds in the process. He has since settled a lawsuit to the FDIC for a $250k loan that he refused to pay back to another bank and still has an outstanding lawsuit from the FDIC for $70m. Yet, he continues to be our Senator and sits on the Ethics Committee as well.
How can our Governor, Lt. Governor, and other elected officials support a candidate with this kind of baggage in a race against another Republican?? This behavior exhibits everything that is wrong with the Republican Party and why it is bleeding supporters. I’ve also received mailers paid for by the Georgian Republican Senate Caucus Promotion PAC supporting Jack Murphy.

I sure would be mad if my contributions to help support Republicans was being used against other Republicans. I think highly elected officials should stay out of races and let the voters decide who they want to represent them.
If Forsyth voters want to vote for a guy who started the Forsyth Tea Party, who is a local business leader and who is fiscally conservative or for an incumbent Senator with lots of ethical issues, they should be able to do so without the outside interference of other elected officials. It’s our county let us chose our own leaders…
