Here are the top five stories in Cumming today:

  1. John Colera of Cumming was arrested by Forsyth County deputies on Feb. 7 for threatening to kill his daughter's family after they gave him an eviction notice. Colera's son-in-law called police after his father-in-law threatened to kill him, his wife, and their 3-year-old son, after which he grabbed two long guns from the wall. His daughter told deputies her father has been becoming politically radicalized and had expressed suicidal thoughts. Colera is currently being held at Forsyth County Jail on a felony charge with a bond set at $22,130. (Appen Media)
  2. The Forsyth County Planning Commission has scheduled its next Regular Meeting/Public Hearing for Feb. 28 at 6:30 p.m., to be held at the Forsyth County Administration Building. The purpose of the meeting is to discuss and review items on the agenda, including hearings for various permits and rezonings. Anyone wishing to speak during the public hearing must provide their name and address to staff beforehand. (Forsyth County)
  3. Throughout the month of February, the Sharon Forks Library is offering a unique date night activity for adults. Participants can pick up a "Date Night at the Library" packet at the Ask Desk, which contains two lists of fun challenges to complete while in the library. Upon completing four challenges on each list, participants can turn in their packet at the desk to receive a special prize (while supplies last). (Forsyth County Public Library)
  4. Have you gotten a chance to check out the "Love Is in the Air" exhibit at the Cumming Arts Center? The first-floor gallery will feature work by Sawnee Association of the Arts members through Saturday, Apr. 15.
