Here are the top five stories in Cumming today:

  1. A 34-year-old man has been arrested in connection with the burglary at a Hindu temple in Cumming. According to the Forsyth County Sheriff's Office, the crime occurred on Apr. 17 at the temple on Shiloh Road where a suspected $3,000 to $4,000 was stolen from a safe. The man allegedly did not act alone, as witnesses say a total of five people were in the temple at the time. An additional $10,000 was reportedly stolen from an assistant priest's backpack.   2. A few student-athletes from Cumming have been named on the University of Georgia's Fall 2022 Honor Roll. Soccer player Madison Haugen, men's track and field team member Cooper Bocko, baseball player Drew Southern, women's track and field team member Sophia Baker, football players Cooper Johnson and Oscar Delp, and men's golf member Blake Parkman were recognized for their academic achievements while also excelling in their respective sports.   3. Severe Weather Preparedness Week runs now through Feb. 10. Each day will center around a specific severe weather threat and tips to prepare for the threat will be made available by the Forsyth County Emergency Management Agency (EMA), in partnership with the Georgia Emergency Management and Homeland Security Agency and the National Weather Service. The county's EMA Interim Director Joey Smith said, "We hope residents will take the time this week to create new or update any existing family emergency plans."
