Man Shot After Pointing Shotgun At Forsyth Deputies

A man was shot Wednesday evening by a Forsyth County deputy after he pointed a shotgun at deputies during a SWAT standoff.

FORSYTH COUNTY, GA β€” A man was shot Wednesday evening by a Forsyth County deputy after he pointed a shotgun at deputies during a SWAT standoff.

The Forsyth County Sheriff’s Office received a 911 call Wednesday at 10:37 p.m. about two men firing shots at each other during a dispute on Grand Prix Street in northeast Forsyth County.

Forsyth deputies took one man into custody at the scene while the other remained in a residence across the
street and refused to come out.

The Crisis Negotiations Team and SWAT Team were called to the scene. During the course of negotiating with the man, police said he would come out of the residence holding a firearm, but would quickly go back inside.

He eventually came out of the residence, confronting deputies with both a handgun and a shotgun, according to police. The man refused to put down his firearms and then pointed the shotgun in the direction of the deputies, police say. Fearing for their safety and the safety of others, the deputies fired their firearms to stop the threat.

Deputies then administered first aid to the male at the scene and the male was transported to an area hospital by EMS.

Forsyth County Sheriff, Ron Freeman has requested the Georgia Bureau of Investigations to conduct an independent investigation into the incident. The deputies involved have been placed on routine administrative leave.
