Cumming Patch readers choose the best staycation destination in this week's Readers' Choice poll.

Our readers voted for as the favorite staycation destination in and around Cumming, receiving 29 percent of the votes in this week's poll.

It's not a surprise that Lake Lanier is a favorite among many, constructed in 1951, the 692 miles of shoreline offers residents and visitors a break from the daily grind.

Owned and operated by the United States Core of Engineers, the lake is well known for its aqua-blue colored water and spectacular scenery. It has become a major recreational destination with 68 parks, overnight camping, fishing, marinas, boat ramps and hiking trails. Lake Lanier has an annual draw of more than seven million visitors.

Coming in a close second with 22 percent of the votes was also located at Lake Lanier.

The voting was based on a combination of poll votes cast and directory reviews.
