  1. Governor Brian Kemp has appointed Representative Lauren McDonald (R-Cumming, District 26) for the 2023-2024 General Assembly as one of the floor speakers for the State House of Representatives. This marks the second consecutive year the legislator will serve in the role. McDonald said, "It's an honor to serve the governor again in this position ... and I look forward to this session and representing Forsyth County and the state." (NewsBreak Original)
  2. The Relay For Life of Forsyth County kickoff dinner is happening tomorrow (Tuesday, Jan. 24) at 6 p.m. at the Highland Medical Plaza in Cumming. Guests are encouraged to wear purple to commemorate the event. Interested parties can email pavica.brajinov@cancer.org or call 678-528-1998 to reserve seats.   3. Lois Marjorie Johnson, the mother of Atlanta-based broadcaster Ernie Johnson, Jr., passed away last Tuesday, Jan. 17 at the age of 94. According to the family, Lois will be buried at Green Lawn Cemetery in Roswell with her husband. There will be a visitation and funeral service here today (Monday, Jan. 23) in Cumming. (95.5 WSB)
  4. A Cumming native swimmer gave an impressive performance in Seton Hall's matchup against Delaware. Though the Seton Hall Pirates lost out on Saturday afternoon, sophomore Quinn Murtha claimed victory in the 1-meter, achieving a total score of 296.33. This marks Murtha's first 1-meter season win, as well as his second overall victory. (SHU Pirates)
  5. Congratulations are in order for the University of North Georgia/Forsyth County Sheriff's Office Advanced Public Safety Academy's inaugural class! After 16 weeks of the academy, Class 001 graduated this past Friday, Jan. 20. "These deputies and officers were pushed to the limits and they never quit," said the Sheriff's Office in a Facebook post.
