Two-Alarm Fire Destroys Cumming Townhouse

Woman and dog escape to safety.

A fire ravaged a townhouse located at 3590 Deep Cove Drive off Buford Dam Road in Cumming shortly after 11 a.m. Sunday.

Capt. Jason Shivers with the Forsyth County Fire Department said, “It’s going to be a total loss due to fire.”

When units arrived, the two-alarm fire had engulfed the townhouse. Shivers said firefighters were faced with “heavy fire throughout.” Flames shot up through the roof of the townhouse.

Shivers said firefighters took an aggressive attack to the fire and was able to contain the blaze to the corner unit. The adjoining townhouse (center unit) sustained water damage only and a neighboring townhouse, unattached to the engulfed unit, experienced heat damage to the siding and windows (see pictures).

“There was one adult female at home at the time, she and her dog both made it out alive,” said Shivers.
