Women’s Assault Prevention Class Offered Saturday

The free course will be held at the Forsyth Conference Center beginning at 10 a.m. Saturday.

A free women’s assault prevention class will be held Saturday at the  at Lanier Technical College hosted by the .

The six-hour course begins at 10 a.m. and will teach women three important topics: what you can and cannot do to defend yourself according to Georgia Law, advice on how not to act like a victim, and learning how to escape the grips of a perpetrator.

"In that case a highly trained [Forsyth County] deputy will be wearing a padded suit so the ladies can actually hit on him a little bit," said Ron Dinsmore, president of , one of the course sponsors.

"If you come to this class and you really watch, you listen and learn – it could potentially save your life," he said. "Anytime we can take advantage of these courses, if we could just save a life, save someone from getting hurt – it's wonderful."

Dinsmore said Saturday's class is not the first of its kind offered in the county. The sheriff's office holds women’s assault prevention classes in subdivisions throughout the community several times a year.

The course is open to women ages 18-70, and those participating should wear comfortable clothing. Complimentary lunch will also be provided by .
