DACULA, GA β€” Dacula’s annual Memorial Day parade has been cancelled because of the coronavirus pandemic, according to an announcement posted this week on the city’s website.

The decision to pull the plug was made by Marvin Atherton, longtime parade organizer and founder of Memorial Day in Dacula.

The Gwinnett Daily Post reported that this is the first time the parade has ever been cancelled. The parade had been held 26 straight years before this.

Coronavirus restrictions already had hampered preparations for the parade, which would have made it difficult organize, pandemic or not.
