News Nearby: Man Installs Makeshift Speed Control Device in Neighborhood

When a gummy bear just won't do ...

A man, who apparently did not have any gummy bears handy,Β recently devised an interesting, albeit illegal,Β way to slow traffic in his WinderΒ neighborhood.

On Nov. 9, aΒ neighborhood residentΒ was on his way home when he noticed boards across the road in the 1600 block of Phillipsburg Drive. The resident, who had his wife and children in the vehicle at the time, drove around the boards and proceeded home before returning to clear the roadway.

After pushing the boards to the side of the road in front of a home, a neighborΒ "came out yelling at [the resident]Β and telling him to get the boards off his property."

The resident complied and shoved the pile of boards to the other side of the road. He then contacted authorities.

Later, while the resident was explaining the situation toΒ the deputy, the neighbor who had reportedly yelled at the resident came outside.

"[The neighbor]Β started complaining about how [the resident]Β speeds in the neighborhood and about the reports he already filed about it," the deputy noted in the report.

The resident informed the deputy he had been having trouble with the neighborΒ and another man. The resident said the two men "often hang out together and drink alcohol." The other man, the resident said, was the one who put the boards across the roadway.

When asked why he put the boards across the roadway, the other man said he did it to slow down speeding cars.

"I explained to him it was illegal to do such a thing and advised him of the civil liability he could incur if something happened," the deputy noted.Β "I told him to refrain from putting the boards in the roadway and he said he understood."
