Sentenced: Father Gets Life for Starving Death of Daughter, 10

The father who pleaded guilty to the 2013 starving death of his 10-year-old daughter was sentenced Friday in Gwinnett County to life in prison without parole.

Eman Moss, implicated with stepmother Tiffany Nicole Moss in the death of Emani Moss, avoided the death penalty by pleading guilty and agreeing to testify against his wife.

It was the lightest sentence the court could give, according to the Gwinnett Daily Post.

Emani Moss’s burned and malnourished body was found in a trash can at the Coventry Pointe apartment complex near Lawrenceville in early November, 2013. She weighed just 32 pounds when she was found.

The couple allegedly withheld food and water from Emani and kept her in a bathtub.

Prosecutors believe Tiffany Moss was the “driving force” behind the crime, and that the father took more of a passive role, the Atlanta Journal-Constitution reported.

Police said Eman called 911 threatening suicide on Nov. 2, 2013, after alleged attempts to burn the girl’s body. He reportedly told police Emani “drank some chemical and was dead,” the AJC said.

The couple’s two other children are in state custody. The case brought scrutiny of the Georgia Division of Family and Children Services for not removing the girl from the home despite evidence of abuse. Two DFCS employees were fired and at least four others disciplined, according to media reports.

Tiffany Moss still faces the possibility of a death sentence.
