Chick-fil-A Set Sales Record On 'Appreciation Day'

Wednesday was a good day for Chick-fil-A -- including the Decatur franchise.

The fast food chain set a sales record as customers lined up across the country to buy chicken sandwiches and waffle fries as part of Chick-fil-A Appreciation Day, an idea thought up by Mike Huckabee.

The Chick-fil-A executive vice president of marketing told The Huffington Post, "While we don't release exact sales numbers, we can confirm reports that it was a record-setting day."

The Decatur restaurant also had a booming business, a manager said Thursday, though he directed all other questions to the corporate office.

Why did so many people eat Chick-fil-A on Wednesday? It all has to do with company President Dan Cathy's recent criticism of same-sex marriage.

Perhaps people thought they were making a statement. As the New York Times reported,

For many, it comes down to this: Eating at Chick-fil-A supports heterosexual marriage and religious freedom. Refusing to eat there supports same-sex marriage and equality.

On Friday, the other side makes its feelings known in Decatur

The Gay & Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation (GLAAD) has organized the National Same-Sex Kiss Day at Chick-fil-A restaurants across the country.

In Decatur, kissers are urged to pucker up from noon to 2 p.m. Friday at the Chick-fil-A at 105 East Trinity Place.

Judging from comments on the Decatur/Avondale Patch Facebook page, some people will be ready to pucker up.
