Here are the top three stories in Decatur-Avondale Estates today:
- On Oct. 28 and Oct. 29, the Atlanta VA Healthcare System will be holding Medication Take Back Days. This event allows veterans and non-veterans alike to safely dispose of old, unused, or expired medications. These include both over-the-counter drugs and prescription medication. You can drop off your unwanted prescriptions at the Atlantic VA Clinic in Decatur or visit the link for more clinic locations throughout the area. (Veterans Affairs)
- A Decatur man embroiled in the Georgia pill-production conspiracy has been sentenced to federal prison. 35-year-old Albert Bynoe was sentenced to 92 months in prison after pleading guilty to multiple crimes including conspiracy to possess with intent to distribute methamphetamine. Bynoe was arrested in 2021 after agents searched his Decatur residence and rented storage unit. They found methamphetamines, cash, drug paraphernalia, pill molds, a pill press machine, and firearms. (All On Georgia)
- On Tuesday, Oct. 25, the House of the Unhoused DeKalb Alliance presented a petition with more than 2,000 signatures to the DeKalb County Board of Commissioners requesting that the county improve services for homeless locals. The Alliance wants the Board to open enough warming centers throughout the county to provide support for all the unhoused people in the area. They also want the county to offer adequate food, shelter, and protection for the homeless of DeKalb. There are currently only three warming centers in the county, all with limited space and resources. (Decaturish.com )
