  1. This month, Dekalb County's Hamilton Recreation Center will host a Parents' Night Out and Kids’ Snack and Paint Party. The program is intended to offer a safe, fun environment for children to spend an evening while parents enjoy a little time to themselves. It will take place on Nov. 18 at 3262 Chapel St. in Scottdale from 6:30-11:30 p.m. Register here. (Press Release Desk)
  2. Despite saying payment would be optional, City Schools of Decatur are now telling parents they must pay for advanced placement and international baccalaureate classes. Superintendent Maggie Fehrman and Decatur High School Principal Rochelle Lofstrand emailed parents on Nov. 3 admitting that the district had informed them payment for exams was optional this year, 'even though it was not, in fact, β€˜optional.'" According to the email, most families have paid the fee. For those who haven't, the district said it would make amends by covering fees for families; those who paid can get refunds after the students take their exam. (Decaturish.com )
  3. Dekalb County police have arrested a person accused of killing a man and injuring a child during a road rage incident earlier this week. Eric Simmons, 59, is accused of shooting and killing 25-year-old Darryl Wiley near Gresham Road on Monday. A 3-year-old girl was also reportedly injured from shattered glass.
