- Students at Decatur High School were placed in an unfortunate situation when one of their teachers repeatedly used a racial slur. Undisclosed disciplinary actions have been taken against the teacher, yet it is evident that students still feel uncomfortable with being taught by this teacher as some have withdrawn from tutoring sessions taught by him. Phil Cuffey, the co-chair of the Beacon Hill Black Alliance for Human Rights, stated that he wonders if the training that teachers receive concerning racial bias is effective. (Decaturish.com )
- Searching for work just got a little less expensive. Lyft and Goodwill have teamed up to provide free rides for those looking for work. From now until Dec. 31 jobseekers can register at Goodwill of North Decatur, located at 2201 Lawrenceville Highway in Decatur, and receive a code qualifying them for free Lyft transportation, to and from interviews and training. Those interested can call 844-344-9675. (Champion)
- A fair share of poultry, fruits, vegetables, sweets, and more, all at your fingertips. The Beulah Missionary Baptist Church, located at 2340 Clifton Springs Road, and the Shy Temple CME Church, located at 2030 Wesley Chapel Road, both in Decatur are scheduled to give out food boxes on Dec. 17. DeKalb County Government and community leaders are grateful for their contributions in this effort which is happening throughout DeKalb's counties. (Press Release Desk)
- Customers of DeKalb County convenience stores have something to look forward to. By June 30, 2023, all convenience stores and high-risk businesses are going to be required to have working surveillance cameras. The ordinance was approved by DeKalb County Commission's office on Dec. 13. (Decaturish.com)
