Murder-Suicide In DeKalb Was Domestic: Authorities

Man was killed, woman was shot in face at Northgate Townhomes in DeKalb County.

TUCKER, GA -- DeKalb County officials said a double shooting Thursday that took the life of a man was the result of a domestic violence situation, Patch has learned.

The man shot a woman he was romantically involved with in the face then turned the gun on himself in what law enforcement authorities are calling a murder-suicide.

The double shooting happened at the Northgate Townhomes on Lawrenceville Highway, as Patch previously reported.

Law enforcement officials said that too often victims of domestic violence suffer in silence.

β€œHave that support system where you can reach out and get assistance if you need it," Maj. Antonio Catlin told WGCL. "The police department, of course, we offer assistance as well. We have contacts, and we can put people in domestic violence situations in contact with through our special victims unit.”

Neighbor Angela Hooks said the TV station that the couple lived there for about a year.

"It goes to show that you never know what’s going on behind closed doors," Hooks was quoted as saying. "And a lot of things that are going on behind closed doors should be brought out so people can get help. If you feel you can’t reach out to your neighbors, seek professional help, somewhere along the way.”

The woman was rushed to the hospital, but is expected to survive, the TV station reports.

Police are withholding the victims' identification pending notification of their family members.
