One Dead, One Injured In Decatur Police Shootout | Two On The Run

The shootout happened Monday night in a Decatur Red Lobster parking lot, and involved an off-duty Clarkston police office.

DECATUR, GA -- One man was killed, another was injured, and two more suspects are on the run after an officer-involved shooting Monday night in the parking lot of a Decatur Red Lobster. According to the Georgia Bureau of Investigation, which has taken over the case, a an off-duty Clarkston police officer working a part-time security job saw the victim of a robbery in the restaurant's parking lot at 2522 Candler Road.

The officer approached and attempted to aid the man, and that's when four male suspects entered a vehicle and shot at the officer and victim as they drove away.

The officer discharged his firearm at the male subjects in the vehicle, shooting two of the male subjects. The vehicle exited the parking lot and traveled further down Candler Road where it came to a stop. The four suspects got out of the vehicle, and two were able to flee the scene. Their identities and current location are unknown.

The other two male subjects were transported to Grady Memorial Hospital with gunshot injuries. One died from his injuries, while the other sustained non life-threatening injuries.

No officers were injured during the incident.

The GBI will conduct its independent investigation. Once complete, it will be turned over to the DeKalb County District Attorney’s Office for review.
