Robbery Suspect Killed in Shootout ID'd as Decatur Resident

Ronald Deonte Johnson, 24, of Decatur was killed in attempted armed robbery of Sunoco in Cartersville, police say.

DECATUR, GA -- Police have identified the robbery suspect who was killed this week in a shootout with a gas station clerk in Cartersville.

Law enforcement officials are still investigating the fatal shooting that preceded the attempted armed robbery.

Twenty-four-year-old Ronald Deonte Johnson of Decatur was killed in the shootout early Tuesday morning at Sunoco in the 2400 block of U.S. 411, the agency told Patch late Wednesday afternoon.

The incident began around 3:30 a.m. when three masked men entered the business and tried to hold up the place. They starting shooting, and the store manager fired back.

Law enforcement officials are looking for the two other suspects, who reportedly fled the scene in a late model, dark-colored SUV.
