Here are the top three stories today in and around Decatur-Avondale Estates:

  1. Following a deadly pedestrian crash at Scott Boulevard and Clairemont Avenue, a Decatur resident has demanded the Georgia Department of Transportation address pedestrian safety issues. According to the resident, the department has failed to address the recent 23.8 percent increase in pedestrian traffic fatalities occurring across the state. Scott Boulevard is reportedly a vital walking route for local residents; however, since it is a State Route, the City of Decatur is unable to take any traffic-reducing measures. (Decaturish)
  2. The DeKalb Elections Board is considering relocating Chamblee precincts. The board voted to defer the conversation to its Sep. 9 meeting. During that meeting, the board will decide on voting location changes. The board wants to increase voting locations to 20 sites this election. As a reminder, the last day to register to vote in the Nov. 8 election is Oct. 11. (Decaturish)
  3. A 17-year-old DeKalb County teen has been charged with felony murder and aggravated assault for shooting his twin brother in the face. The incident occurred in front of a home on Young Knoll Street on Monday morning. 17-year-old Dimitri Hayes died from his wounds at a local hospital. The incident was described by responding police as "accidental." (Fox 5 Atlanta)
